The Kings are facing an uphill battle when they battle against the Rockets in Houston on January 13th. This is a condition of both teams reconstructing for the longer term as both teams look nothing like their early 2000′s heydays. The Sacramento Kings look to go back to their previous popularity in the west with stellar play from their young stalwarts. The Houston Rockets are still coping with the after effects from the retirement of Yao Ming. The Houston Rockets are preferred by 3 points by the oddsmakers and this looks to be a challenging game to call.

Sacramento is paced by G Marcus Thornton and PG Tyreke Evans, which supply a young nucleus for the Sacramento Kings to develop on. The frontcourt is bolstered by PF DeMarcus Cousins and his steady play. The Sacramento Kings are also helped by the seasoned presence of SG John Salmons arriving from the sideline as a deep threat. Former Indiana Hoosier excellent Keith Smart coaches the Sacramento Kings.

The Houston Rockets look drastically diverse from the times of Yao Ming and Steve Francis running the show. Youthful PG Kyle Lowry runs the offense with assistance from PF Luis Scola and PG Goran Dragic. Veterans help the Houston offense with fellow SG’s Courtney Lee and Kevin Martin helping out when they can. Former Celtics excellent Kevin McHale leads the Houston Rockets at head coach.

Just a few years ago, this contest could have been all over television with players like Mike Bibby, Vlade Divac, Chris Webber, and Bobby Jackson steadying the Sacramento Kings. The Houston Rockets had Yao Ming, Steve Francis, Robert Horry, as well as Tracy McGrady in it. The times have certainly transformed things for both teams as the day of free agency and salary caps have made long-term dynasties almost obsolete.
This should be a great contest between these 2 once-mighty franchises with the game itself too close to call.
